Whilst we no longer extend the footprint of our Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) network, which supplies Cable Broadband and Foxtel, we are still able to connect some customers to the network if they are in an area within the HFC footprint.
How do I determine if I am the Network area?Great! You can place an order with us now for Cable Broadband, either over the phone, via Live Chat, or online, you might also like to consider a Foxtel service which uses the same cabling.
- If the check initial shows that the service isn’t available to you
The next thing to do is try a couple of addresses around you, preferably the houses on either side or a few doors down from you (we can’t always supply a service to the other side of a road). Typically we can only extend the cable a short distance.
Should you find that any of these houses have Cable available to them, then we’re able to complete a Commercial Quote for you, so continue on and we’ll explain what this is.
- No properties around you have Cable
Unfortunately, if you can’t locate any properties around you that have Cable Broadband, then the service won’t be available to you, however we’ll endeavour to provide you with one of our other Internet connection options like ADSL, Mobile Broadband, Velocity, or NBN depending on their availability.
Commercial Quote
What is a Commercial Quote & How do I request one?
A Commercial Quote is a process in which we arrange to provide you with a quote of the cost to connect your property to the HFC network. Any of our Consultants can submit a request to have a Commercial Quote completed for you, so just call us on 13 22 00 or Live Chat with us.
Does this guarantee that I’ll be able to get Cable?
Unfortunately not, however it does mean that we are doing all we can to attempt to provide you with a connection to the network.
How much does it cost?
There is no cost to have a quote completed. However, there may be a cost to you to have work completed to connect you to the network. This cost will be confirmed with you prior to any work being undertaken, and you are under no obligation to proceed. As the cost varies from property to property we can’t give you an idea of what amount this will be. In some cases Telstra will do this work as a standard installation as per our current plans.
What is involved in obtaining a Commercial Quote?
- Our sales team submits the request on your behalf – you will need agreement from your Body Corporate, and/or Landlord that they will be happy to proceed with the connection should the outcome be positive and within you/their budget
- Our Commercial Quote Team look at your request and check a number of things like:
- Is the HFC network available in your street?
- Is this house already connected to the network? (If it is they’ll update our records and you can proceed with ordering a Cable Service)
- Can the infrastructure in the street support another connection?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, however gives you an idea what we do.
You’ll be informed within 7 days of submission of the Commercial Quote if any of these checks result in Telstra being unable to connect you to the HFC network.
- Once they’ve done all the behind the scenes checks that we can do remotely, and assuming you aren’t already connected to the network, we’ll proceed with the quote. At this step we contact your Body Corporate/ similar should you have one, to get their permission to proceed with the quote. If you don’t have a Body Corporate you’ll skip this step.
When we’ve received confirmation from the Body Corporate, or if you don’t need permission, we’ll then arrange a date with you to come out and complete a Quote.
- The contractor attends and confirms whether or not we’ll be able to supply Cable to the property, if not the contractor will advise you why this is the case. If we are able to connect you to the network the contractor may provide you with a price on the spot, or you’ll be contacted at a later date with a Quote.
- You decide if you are happy to go ahead with the work, and payment is made - if required.
- Work is undertaken at a time/date agreed to by yourself and Telstra.
- We let you know when you can place an order for Cable.
How long does it take?
If we aren’t able to supply a connection based on the initial checks the Commercial Quote Team complete, you’ll be notified within 7 days.
If we are proceeding with having a Contractor complete the quote, the average time it takes for the Quote to be completed, through to your property being connected to the HFC network is around 4 weeks. This time depends on a number of factors such as your availability and the contractor’s availability, when the costs are paid, how quickly we can get approval from the Body Corporate etc.
