"After placing an order for TW internet & cable service over the telephone I decided to do a self-installation to save the $30 installation fee. The representative" gave me two addresses in where I could pickup the cable box & modem. I drove to the first address and saw a line of more than 30 people, so I decided to go to the second address, which turned out to be Arena - not a TW service center. I was surprised the foreigner I spoke with on the phone didn't know that! So I went back to get the equiptment at the first address. After waiting on-line for about 30 minutes I acquired the cable box & modem. The technician advised me to not place my computer farther than the modem cable length would allow - which was completely inaccurate. After acquiring and installing some additional cable from Best Buy both the cable box and the modem were in good working order. However, after about two days the cable box began doing odd things which caused me to talk to a technician on the telephone twice to 'reset' the box - to no avail - and eventually have a technician come to my home to access the problem and change the box.
"While the initial installation and service were satisfactory, I want to warn anyone considering that when 'renewal' time comes" around (annually) there will be a hefty increase in service cost and annually thereafter. Also after calling about another issue I learned that my 'internet speed' was half of what I was paying for. If I had not complained I would still be overpaying. Introductory programs at are a come on and once you are a customer they are no longer interested in keeping the rate they charge competitive. There is also a tremendous variation that people are paying for the same service depending on when they sign up and how long they have been a customer. Shouldn't loyalty and longevity be rewarded rather than punished? No one wants to have to change providers annually but if you don't shop around, could be charging you as much as 4 or more times more than another provider for the same service.
