Time Warner Cable slowly restoring service to Staten Island, NYC

Time Warner Cable reported an outage Monday affecting TV, phone and Internet across Staten Island and other parts of New York City.(Associated Press)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Service is being restored to some Time Warner Cable customers. Widespread outages took place in TV, phone and Internet service Monday across Staten Island and other parts of New York City and issues are still being resolved.

At 6 p.m., the cable company tweeted.

"Working closely with provider on repairs. We are restoring TV networks through our facilities. We apologize for the inconvenience."

TV service was restored to the Advance building in Grasmere at 6:30 p.m. Random comments on Facebook and Twitter also reflect some restoration of service.

Reports of outages peaked at around 3:30 p.m. Down Detector, an independent service-interruption tracker, showed 2, 911 unique complaints at around 3:30 p.m. Monday with a spike in complaints since approximately 2 p.m.

For those without phone service, Notify NYC provided this information in case of emergency.

Time Warner has also tweeted this explanation.

"Multiple fiber cuts at network providers affecting phone and some TV svcs in NYC area. We apologize for the inconvenience."

The situation has been met with lots of vitriol on social media, but some folks decided to soften the inconvenience with some humor. A Staten Island Advance Facebook commenter wrote:

John DeMartini Only get channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13. I feel like I'm living in the 1960s and 70s! When does "Bowling For Dollars, " come on?
